# YeboVerify Docs > Identity verification API for African apps — KYC, AML, face match, document OCR. This file is a curated, machine-readable index of the developer docs at https://docs.yeboverify.com. YeboVerify verifies a person's identity from an ID document + selfie. Two integration shapes: **direct verification** (you POST images, you get a sync result), and **hosted sessions** (you create a session, redirect the user to verify.yeboverify.com, you receive results via webhook). Base URL: `https://api.yeboverify.com` (prod), `https://dev-api.yeboverify.com` (dev). Authentication: `X-API-Key: yv_live_…` (live, billable) or `yv_test_…` (sandbox — never bills, never calls a real provider, supports a `simulate` field to force outcomes). Both work against the SAME host; `dev-api.yeboverify.com` is a separate pre-production deployment, not a key format. All requests use TLS, all bodies are JSON or `multipart/form-data` for image uploads. ## Before you write code — three things that are NOT conventional These are the three mistakes that most often produce a broken YeboVerify integration. Each comes from assuming this API behaves like a typical REST API. Read them before generating code. 1. **`/v1/sessions/*` responds FLAT — there is no `data` wrapper.** Every other endpoint returns `{ success, data: {...} }`, but the session routes put their fields next to `success`: `{ success, session, verifyUrl, expiresIn }`. So `response.data.verifyUrl` is `undefined`; read `response.verifyUrl`. This is not a hypothetical — it is exactly what broke the official Node SDK, whose `createSession()` silently returned `undefined`, so no end user ever received a link. 2. **`verifyUrl` carries its token in a URL FRAGMENT, not a query string.** The correct form is `https://verify.yeboverify.com#session=TOKEN` — never `?session=TOKEN`. The `#` keeps the token out of server logs, analytics and the `Referer` header of the next page. Never rewrite it to a query parameter, and never log the full URL: it is a live credential. 3. **YeboVerify sends the end user NOTHING.** There is no SMS, no email, no OTP and no "verification code" anywhere in this API — no endpoint does it. The integrator delivers `verifyUrl` to their user themselves (redirect, button, or their own messaging). YeboVerify's only outbound message is the webhook to the integrator's own server. If an end user reports "I never received a code", the integrator's own delivery of `verifyUrl` is what failed — do not look for a messaging feature to fix. Two more rules worth following: - **Build on a `yv_test_` key first.** Sandbox verifications never bill and never call a real AI provider. Add a `simulate` field to force the outcome: `approved` (default), `rejected`, `needs_review`, `liveness_spoofed`, `expired_document`. Implement the rejected and needs_review branches before going live. `simulate` with a `yv_live_` key is rejected with HTTP 400. - **Webhook handlers must verify `X-YeboVerify-Signature-V2` (HMAC-SHA256) and de-duplicate on `eventId`.** Retries are expected, so handlers must be idempotent. ## MCP server (for AI agents) An MCP server exposes this API as tools, so an agent can integrate YeboVerify without hand-wiring HTTP calls: ```bash claude mcp add yeboverify -- npx -y github:omegathesecond/yeboverify-mcp ``` No API key is required to start it. Two tools need no key — `start_here` (the full integration briefing) and `create_sandbox_account` (creates an account and returns both keys). Five more cover runtime: `create_verification_session`, `get_verification`, `list_verifications`, `create_company_verification`, `get_account`. See https://docs.yeboverify.com/mcp ## Integration paths - **Direct verification** — your backend submits images, gets a sync decision in ~5–10s. Best for backend-to-backend flows. - **Hosted session** — your backend creates a session, hands the token to your client, the user completes capture on `verify.yeboverify.com`, results return via webhook. Best for web/mobile apps. ## Core concepts - **Verification** (`vrf_…`) — one identity check. Has a status (`PENDING` → `PROCESSING` → `COMPLETED` / `FAILED` / `NEEDS_REVIEW`) and a final decision (`approved` / `rejected` / `needs_review`). - **Session** (signed JWT) — a hosted-flow handle. Created by your backend with `userId` + optional `callback`. 30-minute TTL. - **Business** — your YeboVerify account. One business owns its API keys, its webhook config, and its verifications. - **External ref** — your own user/order ID, attached to a verification so you can correlate without storing YeboVerify-specific IDs. ## Endpoints - [POST /v1/verify/selfie-match](https://docs.yeboverify.com/api-reference#selfie-match-verification): direct face-match-only verification. - [POST /v1/verify/id-document](https://docs.yeboverify.com/api-reference#id-document-verification): direct full KYC (face match + document OCR). - [POST /v1/sessions/create](https://docs.yeboverify.com/api-reference#create-session): create a hosted-flow session. - [POST /v1/sessions/validate](https://docs.yeboverify.com/api-reference#validate-session): introspect a session token. - [POST /v1/sessions/upload](https://docs.yeboverify.com/api-reference#upload-photo-progressive): progressive photo upload (slow networks). - [POST /v1/sessions/submit](https://docs.yeboverify.com/api-reference#submit-session): submit a hosted session for processing. - [GET /v1/verifications](https://docs.yeboverify.com/api-reference#list-verifications): list your verifications. - [GET /v1/verifications/:id](https://docs.yeboverify.com/api-reference#get-verification-details): fetch one verification. - [DELETE /v1/verifications/:id](https://docs.yeboverify.com/api-reference#delete-verification): delete a verification (fires `verification.deleted` webhook). - [GET /v1/account](https://docs.yeboverify.com/api-reference#get-account-info): your business account + stats. - [PUT /v1/account/webhook](https://docs.yeboverify.com/api-reference#update-webhook-url): configure webhook URL + secret. - [POST /v1/company-verifications](https://docs.yeboverify.com/kyb#create-a-company-verification): create a company (KYB) verification. - [GET /v1/company-verifications/:id](https://docs.yeboverify.com/kyb#reading-verifications): fetch one company verification. - [POST /v1/company-verifications/:id/documents](https://docs.yeboverify.com/kyb#uploading-documents): upload a company document. - [POST /v1/company-verifications/:id/review](https://docs.yeboverify.com/kyb#manually-review-a-verification): accept/reject documents and recompute the decision. ## Webhook events YeboVerify emits three event types to your configured webhook URL — for both individual KYC and company (KYB) verifications. Every payload carries a stable `eventId` for dedupe. Payloads are signed and sent with three headers: legacy `X-YeboVerify-Signature: sha256=` (body-only HMAC-SHA256, **no replay protection** — kept only for backward compatibility, do not use for new integrations), `X-YeboVerify-Timestamp` (unix seconds), and `X-YeboVerify-Signature-V2: sha256=` (HMAC-SHA256 over `"."` — replay-resistant, **use this one**). - `verification.submitted` — fires when documents arrive at YeboVerify (before AI processing). Use to flip local state to "in progress" only after real submission. Fire-and-forget, no retry. - `verification.completed` — fires when processing finishes with a final decision, for both individual KYC (`type: "individual"`) and company/KYB (`type: "company"`) verifications. Individual payloads include `decision`, `confidence`, `faceScore`, `ocrConfidence`, `livenessChecked`/`livenessScore`/`livenessDecision`, `aml`, and `extractedData`; company payloads include `decision`, `confidence`, `aml`, and a `company` block (registered name, signatory decision, document checklist) instead. Retried up to 3 attempts on 5xx/timeout. - `verification.deleted` — fires when an admin removes a verification. Use to reset local KYC state. Fire-and-forget, no retry.
